Presentation of the book “Terra d’Africa”

cop_libro_AfricaThe day March 28, 2015 at 17:30 , at the Museum of Zoology of Via Ulisse Aldrovandi 18 in Rome, there will be the presentation of the new photographic book “Terra d’Africa” , with the participation of Alberto Angela and projection of Multivision made by the Merlino Multivisioni of Trieste .

The book “Terra d’Africa” contains photographs and texts by Jacqueline De Monte and Valentino Morgante, and the book has a preface by Alberto Angela .

The evening shadows grow longer as the rose-coloured sunset slowly fades into night. After a day on safari we are sat around the campfire, the flames flickering restlessly in the darkness, as we admire the beautiful star- filled African sky. A spectacular display of shooting stars completes the show.

We have visited the great African game reserves from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the forests of Bwindi and Virunga, where gorillas live; from the Namib and Kalahari deserts to the Okavango delta; from the majestic Victoria Falls to Lake Malawi in the Rift valley; from trekking Mount Kilimanjaro, “the roof of Africa”, to walking safaris in the Mana Pools park and in South Luangwa; from boat safaris on the Chobe and Zambezi rivers, to the arid Etosha park in Namibia.

We worry for the future of this amazing continent. Too often the animals are threatened by man and this is not morally acceptable. We are part of nature and our task should be to protect it.

“Terra d’Africa” is a small collection of images gathered over the course of twenty years that bear witness to our experiences. We consider photography a form of artistic expression, which we use to celebrate Africa’s natural beauty; but we also strongly believe that this creative tool, in addition to documenting the beauty of nature, can play a part in its safeguarding.
