NAMIBIA: Photo safari – Desert Elephants

Baby ElephantThis tour in Namibia is structured to specifically offer the best photography opportunities, allowing you to concentrate on the photography of landscape, people and wildlife.

The places that we will visit are: Etosha Park, a unique environment rich in wildlife. The Epupa Falls where we will meet the Himba people. The Kaokoland, where we’ll be look for the desert elephants in a spectacular setting.

Omaruru, with its giant monoliths and the Sossusvlei desert with its suggestive dunes which are amongst the tallest in the world. It is a 12 days /11 nights tour with an “all inclusive” formula and overnighting in medium/high level accommodations.

Specialized guided during this exciting photo safari, and will give you the opportunity to capture with your camera the most relevant aspects of the mentioned locations.

Day 1 – Windhoek

Arrive at Windhoek International Airport and meet your guide. Transfer and check in at the lodge located in the outskirts of the capital, Windhoek.
Overnight in a guesthouse in Windhoek.

Day 2 – Windhoek – Etosha Park

Road transfer to Etosha Park, driving north via Okjvarongo: in the afternoon we start with our first safari. Etosha National Park covers an area of 22.270 Km², making it one of the largest parks of Africa. The 4.590 Km² white pan of the Etosha Pan salt pan, adds to this unique landscape, making it even more suggestive. The Park is home to 114 species of mammals and 340 species of birds which populate it throughout the year.

Day 3 – Etosha Park

At breaking of dawn we will start taking our first pictures of todays safari. Hole day dedicated to safari in the park which is amongst the most famous in Africa. We will visit some of the many waterholes that can be found throughout the park, and will admire the animals that go to quench their thirst.

Day 4 – Etosha Park

Today is dedicated to a full day safari in the park, apart from the common game, we will be looking for the predators, amongst them the powerful Lion, the burly Hyenas, the shy Leopard, and the rare Cheetah. We will travel the vast savannah and open spaces of Etosha in search of game and photographic opportunities.

Day 5 – Etosha Park – Opuwo

In the morning we will drive to Opuwo, the “capital” of Koakoland. During our drive we will be on safari in Etosha up until our exit at Galton west gate. Opuwo area is populated by the Himba and the Herero people, which we will meet both, and we will be able to observe the intriguing and somewhat hectic aspects of their daily activity in Opuwo.

Day 6 – Opuwo – Epupa  

Today we will be visiting the area populated by the Himba people and the Epupa Falls, which are situated on the border with Angola. The drive will be rich with emotions, thanks to its suggestive and unique scenery of the Epupa falls with the presence of water, palms and local culture. In this area we will have the opportunity to meet and photograph the Himba people.

Day 7 – Epupa – Damaraland

We are now leaving the Koakoland area and will transfer to Sesfontein area near the border of Damaraland: recently these two regions have merged into one, becoming the Kunene region. This area always brings lots of emotions because of its fascinating wilderness and the wildlife that live in this area, totally free in movement without borders. During our transfer we will still have the chance to meet and photograph the local people.

Day 8 – Sesfontein area

Today will reward you with many unique emotions, thanks to its suggestive scenery. This is an area whose beauty always amazes its visitors. We will be going looking for desert adapted elephants along the dry river beds where these pachyderms are an integrating part of this unique ecosystem. In the area we will also see oryx, giraffes, springbok, ostriches….

Day 9 – Sesfontein – Omaruru

After breakfast we will drive to Omaruru, in the Erongo region. We will observe how the landscape of Damaraland changes constantly, with new colours and shapes: mountains, rolling hills and vast plains. We will be able to see different type of wildlife such as mountain zebras, giraffes, kudus, springboks, oryx… We will arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon: the lodge is located on a private reserve, with spectacular huge granite monoliths of volcanic origin.

Day 10 – Omaruru – Namib Desert

Start of a new day with the amazing and majestic landscape surrounding us. We will take a walk in the lodge’s surroundings, to fully appreciate the amazing landscape with its huge granite monoliths and then transfer to Sesriem. On our way we will stop for lunch at Solitaire and arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 11 – Namib Desert

This morning we depart before sunrise for our visit to the dunes of Sossusvlei. The dunes have a striking apricot colour in the morning and when the first rays of sun illuminate them, perfect time to start taking pictures. We will visit the very suggestive skeleton tree with a white basin named “Deadvlei”. If you feel adventurous, you can climb the tallest dune “Big Daddy”. We will have the opportunity to see also some animals such as springbok, Oryx, ostriches…. In the afternoon we will visit the Sesriem Canyon. The day will draw to an end with a spectacular sunset.

Day 12 – Namib Desert – Windhoek

Early morning transfer to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, transfer to the International Airport in time for your flight.
